Alia Martine Shawkat, b. April 18, 1989, Riverside) is an American actress. She is best known for her role as Maeby Funke in the TV series “Slow Development”.

Bio
Shakat was born in Riverside, California to Dina Burke and actor Tony Shakat. She grew up in the Palm Springs area. She has two brothers. Actor Paul Burke was her maternal grandfather. Shakat’s father is an Iraqi Arab from Baghdad. Her mother is half Norwegian, a quarter Irish and a quarter Italian.

When Shakat is not working (acting in films and on television), she likes to draw; she has participated in exhibitions in Los Angeles, Mexico City and Paris. She also likes to study music and sing in jazz bars.

Awards and nominations
Shakat was nominated for the Young Actor Award in 2002 for her role in the TV series “State of Frenzy”, and in 2005 she received it for the role of Maeby Funke in the TV series “Slow Development”. She was also nominated three times (in 2005, 2006 and 2014) for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Cast in a Comedy series along with other actors of “Slow Development”.
